Budget Policy Announced

Today I announced the following six points will form the core of my budget policy: 1. Balanced budgets 2. Debt reduction 3. Ending the tax-on-tax 4. Reducing the political party donation tax credit 5. Identifying and reducing waste in government 6. Controlling public sector pay and benefits. Earlier in this campaign, I announced that I would institute a cap on government spending. That policy is designed to force government departments to prioritize their program spending. Once we have achieved the cap, my budgeting policies will be guided by these six points. My support for these policies is not for their own purposes but rather because of what they let us achieve. That is a future based on prosperity, founded on the values of hard work, generosity, freedom, tolerance, and equality of opportunity. Sound budget policies ensure that we can build a future where we can lead the kind of lives we want to lead. That is why these ideas will form the core of my government’s...

Kellie Leitch takes the lead in CPC fundraising

Elections Canada today released CPC leadership fundraising results for the period ending June 30th, 2016 with Simcoe-Grey MP Kellie Leitch leading the declared candidates to date. While the CPC leadership campaign is still in its early stages, fundraising remains an important marker of campaign strength, breadth and longevity. On April 3rd, Maxime Bernier and Kellie Leitch filed their respective papers and began their campaigns just prior to Michael Chong entering the race. “Kellie asked us to explore her capacity to execute a strong national campaign and to put together a solid team of people,” said campaign co-chair Dany Renauld. “We are building a campaign of conservatives who believe in rewarding hard work and who believe in helping others so that every individual has the same opportunities we’ve been privileged to enjoy as Canadians.” “We are very pleased with the results today,” added Renaud. “Any serious CPC leadership candidate must have the capacity to raise significant money if we’re going to defeat the Trudeau Liberals.” “Kellie has built a tremendous team across Canada,” added campaign co-chair Sander Grieve. “Kellie had an exceptional showing at the CPC convention in Vancouver and we are pleased with the solid news from Elections Canada today. As the campaign continues, Kellie will work hard to build positive momentum to demonstrate that she has the work ethic, the know-how and the fundraising capacity to defeat Trudeau and get our country back on track.” “I feel very blessed to have such a great team of people supporting me and I’m looking forward to a competitive race for the leadership of our party,” said Kellie Leitch. “Our ability...

No National Carbon Tax

As a country, we have to work hard to solve our current climate challenges. Canada can become a global leader in a green economy. We must find ways to support Canadian companies and encourage them to innovate. That’s how we will create jobs and protect the environment. But these goals will never be achieved through a national carbon tax regime. Most provinces are now experimenting with various ways to price carbon: a carbon tax in BC and cap and trade regimes in Ontario and Quebec. The data is clear; carbon taxes disproportionately affect lower income people and seniors, and I will never support a tax on a tax. I will not support a national carbon tax. The solution to our climate challenges will not come from targeting a single industry or pollutant. This is a complex challenge that spans industries and borders. We must achieve solutions that make sense for the environment and for our economy. With hard work, we can get this done. Listen here to my thoughts on carbon taxes, in answer to a member’s question during my May 30 Town Hall. You may also listen to the complete Town Hall meetings where I answer questions on a variety of topics. If you agree that we must find solutions that support both jobs and our environment and, like me, do not support ineffective taxes, please let me know, join me using the buttons above and consider making a donation to allow me to get this message out to all Conservatives across...
